So…we’re 3 weeks into the New Year…how are you coming on your New Year’s Resolutions?  Falling off the wagon already?

I have GREAT news!  It’s not too late to correct course.  Remember that sinking feeling you had right before Thanksgiving last year, realizing that there were only 6 weeks left in the year, and being full of “I wish I had worked a little harder at that a little earlier in the year?”  The good news is that there are 49 weeks left in 2009…LOTS of time to accomplish all of your goals!

What is the magic glue that gets those New Years Resolutions to actually *stick* this year?

“If at first you don’t succeed, you are running about average.” M H Alderson

The first key is to be realistic about what you can accomplish, and break your goals down into manageable activities.  Remember that it takes 30 days to create a new habit. Falling off the wagon is okay…AS LONG AS you climb back on!  Let’s take prospecting as an example (did you really expect anything else??):

□ Plan your week in advance…do the “prep” work ahead of time, so that you have everything ready (phone #’s, e-mail addresses, etc.)
□ Eat your frogs early in the day ~ 10 sphere contacts is very manageable if you just handwrite 2 notes first thing in the morning, send 5 e-cards or e-mails, and then make 3 past client calls…EASY to accomplish in an hour if you plan!
□ You have lots of resources…your planner, the contact manager…USE THEM!
□ Have you sent your 2008 HUD’s yet? We’ve made copies for you, no excuses. There’s a great letter to accompany them in the planner.
□ What is your plan for February pop by’s?  Plan now!  Lots of ideas in your planner.
□ What is your plan for closing anniversaries this year?  Are they laid out in your planner?  Make it a simple system.  Recognizing closing anniversaries is one of the single most important things you can do as an agent to insure future referrals from past clients.

Successful agents PLAN and WORK their PLANS!  Make 2009 your year to run your business, instead of your business running you!!

teamworkThis week marks the 5 year anniversary of Liz Moore & Associates. I certainly owe a debt of gratitude to all of you who have worked with such passion and commitment over these past 5 years to create a solid foundation for our business model. I believe that we have firmly established our brand as well respected in the community for being innovative, for exceptional client care, and as having the most knowledgeable and professional agents in the area. In recent months especially, I can really feel our momentum begin to build in Williamsburg, just as it did a few years back in Newport News. Thank you for your dedication to our vision, and for making this more than just a place to work.

We’ve all been tested this past year or so, and I’m encouraged by your determination to stay focused and positive. It’s the attitude of winners. The highest level of growth is always achieved during times of stress. I look forward to 2009 being a year of much learning and growth, an even higher level of collaboration and team work, as we set new standards for our industry. And, as the market begins its correction, I look forward to enjoying the upside because we have “used the Winter to prepare for the Spring.”

As we launch the next 5 years, it will be critical to remember what brought us our initial success (a commitment to deliver an exceptional customer experience, and to maintain a higher standard of professionalism than our competitors), as well as to have the courage to embrace new ways of doing business, and not be afraid to break with traditions that are no longer productive as both the market and consumer evolve.

Market dominance and industry leadership are the goals. The right people are on the bus. Buckle up, and enjoy the ride!!
